Class 5 state champions. Coach McCain reloads every year. Culture and depth keep them elite despite losing four D1 players. CB Matt Williams (class 2027, committed Vanderbilt) is an elite defender headlining the defense. Domo Everette takes over as the starting QB. That’s the Maury standard — D1 talent on both sides of the ball.

Region 5A champions. Heru engineered a 97-yard game-winning drive as a freshman and already holds 16 D1 offers as a class of 2029 prospect — one of the most recruited players in the entire state regardless of class. Indian River has 9 players with D1 offers across the roster including a 3-star OL, multiple class of 2028 prospects, and even a class of 2030 player drawing interest. This is no longer just a one-man show — it’s a program.

Four straight undefeated regular seasons. But 2026 is a rebuild year by Green Run standards — five D1 signees graduated including three Virginia Tech commits (Wilder, Cleveland, Johnson). The entire identity of last year’s roster walked out the door. Everything now hinges on Maurikus Banks (ODU commit, class 2027). If he steps in and delivers, Green Run reloads immediately. If not, the Beach District title is up for grabs.

Lost state semis to Loudoun County 25-23 with key injuries. Beat Phoebus 23-17 in playoffs. Most underrated program in Hampton Roads. Legitimate Class 4 state title contender. QB Baum Hogge committed to Old Dominion adds a proven signal-caller with a Division 1 destination.

Gene Jones (class 2027, committed UVA) is the headliner — he chose the Wahoos over Virginia Tech, Syracuse, ODU and NC State and becomes the first Hampton commit ever for Tony Elliott. Marcus Chapman returns as the starting QB. WR Davion Perry is a name to watch at 6’1”. With Phoebus in rebuilding mode, the Peninsula District is Hampton’s to lose.

Three straight 10-win seasons under Coach Joffrion in the toughest district in Virginia. Losing Pittman (Pitt) early is the headline — 21 TFLs and 11 sacks gone in January. But Anthony Henderson Jr steps into the spotlight as a legitimate Power 5 recruit with 18 offers and official visits to Maryland, Rutgers, Duke and VT this summer. If Satchell develops at QB, this team rebounds.

The most underrated team in the 757. Played the toughest schedule in Virginia and still went 6-5. The entire skill core returns as seniors — Ortell at QB, Montgomery at RB/WR, Lane at WR. No documented D1 offers yet but the talent is here. Bounce-back to 9 wins is realistic if they stay healthy.

Facing their biggest roster turnover in years. Three transfers — Carey and Thornton to St. James, Short to St. Frances — compound the graduation losses across the D-line. What’s left is a talented but thin returning core: Terius Brown (3 D1 offers), Zyire White (Syracuse), Kristopher Harrison (ODU offer) and Raiqwan Edlow. Warwick will need to reload fast. Peninsula District is wide open so the opportunity is still there.

Coach Jerome Rhodes enters year 8 with one of the deepest rosters in program history — 55 players versus the Bay Rivers average. Devon Price (class 2028, 6 confirmed D1 offers: Liberty, Wake Forest, William & Mary, ECU, Syracuse, Howard) is the program’s most recruited player in years. Micah Mason returns as a versatile senior weapon. Carson Strickland steps into the QB role. Bay Rivers is a manageable path to the playoffs and Price makes this team must-watch.

Derek Fisher (committed Virginia, 14 offers) is one of the most decorated defenders in Peninsula District history, and Jordyn Hill (class 2028, 6’3” 230) adds Power 4 interest on the D-line. Together they give Bethel a potentially elite front. But the offseason losses are real — Alex Lewis (area’s best QB) and Amari Pryear (1,580 yds, 24 TDs) out the door in the same year. The ceiling is entirely a QB question.

Biggest challenger to Green Run in Virginia Beach. Jason Harden Jr. (class 2028, RB) is the program’s top recruit — he picked up a Virginia Tech offer as a freshman and returns as a sophomore with a big ceiling. With Green Run losing five D1 signees, the Beach District is more wide open than it’s been in years and Salem is positioned to take advantage.

Lost MJ Lemke (the QB who carried them). Drew Davidson and Braden Herron compete for the job heading into fall camp — whoever wins gets a solid skill set around them with Hudson at RB and Reighard/Neff at WR. Ceiling depends entirely on who steps up under center.

Showed improvement in 2025. Beat Cox in the regular season. Worth watching in Beach District.

Young core with legitimate upside. The open Beach District creates opportunity for a program on the rise. Worth tracking heading into the fall.
